Agricultural Revival Program
NDC envisions a long-term plan for sustainable agricultural development in Lebanon that relies on regenerative agriculture principles and methodologies, en-route to achieving societal food security and domestic production of strategic reserves for basic food items of the Lebanese diet. (Updated 18 February 2022)
Learn MoreThe National Development Committee - NDC, has an evolutionary approach to address a stressful situation affecting farmers due to the economic downturn in Lebanon. The approach can be summarized in the following diagram:
Learn MoreEleven farmers in Nabatiyeh - Khiyam - Wazzani - Ein Ebel - Memis (Hasbaya) - SoukElkhan (Hasbaya) - KfarQouk (Rachaya) - Dhaniyeh - Eyaat (Baalbek) are planting wheat, barley, chickpeas, and lentils: both for crop expansion, consumption, and production of green feed
Learn MoreNDC natural feed operation is currently focused on two components: green feed (sprouted seeds) and mealworm Green sprouts are excellent feed for poultry, cattle, and fish; that enhances quality and taste and vitamin, fiber, and mineral content Mealworm is an excellent source of protein, enzymes, and fatty acids, used in poultry, fish, and bird/reptile pets.
Learn MoreThe NDC has established its project portfolio for the year 2022. The attached document provides the guiding concepts for that portfolio. A brief project summary can be shared upon request. Detailed proposal of each project in the list is ready to submit for funding consideration
Learn MoreThe grains and legumes project was launched in October 2020 and harvest collected and processed in 2021 Two projects were piloted in 2021: Production of natural feed and poultry
Learn MoreNDC Expenses August 2020 - December 2021 Expenses in $ and LBP are additive
Learn MoreGOAL Implement a plan for sustainable agricultural development of strategic plant and animal products, essential for food security in the Lebanese society
Learn MoreIn the absence of an effective government system, economic turmoil, and financial hardships, it was critical to turn into the grassroots of where reshaping of agricultural economic drivers should begin: the farmer
Learn MoreAs the extent of strategic shortfall in domestic production of a product is determined, a ten-year action plan of multiple progression / expansion stages is outlined to boost its domestic production
Learn MoreThe NDC seeks a wide array of partnerships in implementing projects, and believes that for agricultural development to be sustainable, it has to involve a large coalition of organizations and co-ops, and a broad network of partner farmers, integrating their efforts into a common long-term plan
Learn MoreProjects initiated by NDC or its partners will be pursued by the "Partnership for Agricultural Revival in Lebanon"
Learn MoreThis program aims to expand domestic production of grains and pulses in Lebanon. Food security of these strategic products is enhanced through progressive increase in strategic reserves and reduction in imports.
Learn MoreThis program aims to introduce dual purpose chicken for farmer's homestead growing using natural feed. The objectives are to establish food security of two key dietary items: broiler meat and eggs; that are higher in quality and yield, to support livestock sustainability and added income to farmers
Learn MoreThe program aims to introduce natural feed as a major component of poultry, cattle, and pond fish diet. Two key components of emphasis are green feed through sprouting of grains and legumes and production of mealworms as a high protein supplement. Other components such as algae and leftover vegetables, fruits, and home scraps are also being explored.
This program aims to establish model nurseries across Lebanon, to provide comprehensive support to farmers through quality seedlings, soil testing and related guidance, training workshops, technical support, and experimental lots for new varieties.
This program aims to support existing small and medium scale dairy operation to optimize the quality and volume of their products and improve production efficiency through machinery and automation. Increasing herd size and supportive veterinary preventative and management services are the means for sustainable higher production, herd safety and expansion through breeding.
The program aims to expand production of marine fish by improving means and tools of domestic fishermen; and pond grown fish of large, medium, and small scale.
